To Do List, 2011

To Do List, 2011

The "bones" of the boat are in good shape.  The hull and house are fiberglass and are sound.  The engines, transmissions and the generator run good.  The fuel tanks don't leak.  The minor problems are related to age.  The house needs to be painted.  The windows and the upper structure drip in the rain.  The windows need new tracks and some trim needs to be replaced.  The teak decks need to be repaired with seam caulk.

The things I thought I would do if I were to keep the boat are in my "to-do list".  I've tried to price the boat so someone wouldn't mind finishing these things themselves.  I plan to continue to work on the boat and reduce the price until it sells.

The Windows

The wood valances above the windows inside the salon have stains from the drips from the upper deck. The plywood lining the walls underneath the windows inside the salon is painted but the leaks from the windows have ruined the paint. Some trim and the wood supporting the trim directly under the windows are damaged from the leaky windows. I am currently repairing these. The wood underneath the window over the galley is finished. The tracks under the sliding windows in the salon need to be replaced. The felt like material in the tracks is worn out and is allowing the water to get underneath the glass when it rains.

The windows in the v-berth, in the aft cabin and in the heads are caulked shut from the outside.  Note: the windows in new Grand Banks are fixed windows that don't open either.

The Teak Decks

There are small drips in the salon on the valances over the windows when it rains. I don't know if this is from the caulk around the edge of the upper deck or from the deck itself. It almost doesn't matter. The upper deck needs to be repaired with black seam caulk. The lower deck around the cabin needs to be repaired with the black seam caulk or replaced with a non-skid coating. They can not be sanded any more. The screw heads are showing, so there is no room for plugs. Note: The new grand banks have non-skid on some of the decks.
