We're back...
 |
On Tuesday, November 5th,
we returned from our Summer trip! We left
Wrightsville Beach on May 1st, traveled North to Boston,
then completed the entire Erie Canal (from Waterford to
Buffalo, NY), traveling over 3,000 miles in just over 6
months.
The trip started with a nor'easter in Oriental, the Preakness in
Baltimore, 4th of July in Boston, a cooking class at the CIA in Hyde
Park, NY, a Nascar race at Watkins Glen, and Cirque Du Soleil in
Toronto. Click here for photos of: |

Once again, we towed a 15' Boston Whaler (Scot Free)
behind us. The big boat ran perfectly, and the only trouble we
had was the ethanol gas in New Jersey for the little boat.
3 new carburetors, new gas tanks, lines, hoses... and we finally
have it solved.
Some of our favorite places were Mystic Connecticut,
Portsmouth Virginia, Watkins Glen New York, Central Park, Elizabeth
City, and all the wonderful towns along the Erie Canal. The
Erie was easy boat traveling, with friendly bridge tenders and lock
masters, no tides or currents, warm welcomes from every town, free
dockage every evening, and beautiful farm land. The Hudson
River has huge mountains (Catskill and Adirondacks) and our
favorite, Bannerman Castle.
Without a doubt, this trip was extra special because
of all the great people we met along the way. Our fellow
boaters are always one-in-a-million, but the locals that we met
truly were awesome individuals. We began the trip in
Charleston, SC at the Great Loopers Association rendezvous and
traveled with many friends from NC to NY. The "loopers"
continued north when we turned into Long Island Sound toward Boston.
Then we caught up with the "snowbirds" on our return trip and met
people from France (not just French Quebec), London, Holland, and of
course, lots of Canadians.
I wish we could say that we are glad to be back
home, but each day we see all the southbound boats in the waterway!
George summed it up pretty good, he said, "It's like all our new
friends are going to a party, and they dropped us off." That's
OK, we'll catch up with them in the Spring!
